Join the Guelph Indigenous Community Council this Friday for the launch of our monthly Indigenous documentary and discussion series!
Hosted during our second Family Night of the month, this gathering brings our community together to screen impactful films, share space, and engage in meaningful conversation.
For our first screening, we are featuring Waniska (An Awakening of Indigenous Knowledge), directed by the Kehte-Ayak (Elder’s) Circle at First Nations University of Canada. Waniska—a Cree word meaning “to awaken”—follows spiritual Elders and Residential School Survivors as they share Indigenous knowledge systems on the land, offering wisdom and light for humanity’s future.
Following the 25-minute screening, we will sit together in a talking circle to reflect, share thoughts, and build community.
When: This Friday (Opening up at 7pm, starting by 7:15 sharp and then 30-60 minutes discussion afterwards)
Where: (DIYode Community workshop, 700 York Road, The entrance is at the back of the red building – Near where Clearview Street intersects with Beaumont Crescent.)
What to Expect: Documentary screening followed by a sharing circle.
Refreshments: Light snacks (vegan/vegetarian and gluten-free options available) and cold/hot drinks provided.
Everyone is welcome to join us in circle. We look forward to gathering with you!
